Lorica tends to keep herself to herself. A lot of the mages at the guild tend to be more like frat boys, using their magic to bring the beer to their mouth or casting fires to watch the blasts.
But she was happier alone, given the company she would have available. She doesn't drink, she doesn't party, she's a calm soul, one that has a keen interest in alchemy and making potions. Her friend, Lunea, shares somewhat similar interests, and while they were reading through some books, Lorica found out about a great energy potion that requires a special herb, found in a dark abandoned forest. She never told Lunea, as she wanted to surprise her with it, given Lunea had been struggling with her studies.
The forest was indeed abandoned. No insect, bird or animal in sight. It was eerie, but the good news was that the herb was available at the very edge of the forest. It was a case of going in and getting out.
As she stepped in, nothing felt out of the ordinary. In fact it was oddly cozy, like she could stay there for a long time. She bent over and cut the plant she needed with her sickle...but nothing happened. It seemed the forest was completely abandoned, and there was nothing to worry about!
At least she felt this way, until she realized walking forward caused her to raise vertically, which she noticed wasn't normal. She also noticed she was weirdly walking with her arms to her sides, which wasn't normal for her either. Without much thought or observing her surroundings, she screamed for help.
But her voice didn't even echo, in fact it felt like it was inside her own head. The edge of the forest began to get darker, as a pink aura began to surround her, forming a rather displeased face.
She pleaded with the aura, telling it she'd put the plant back and leave without disturbing them ever again. But even Lorica knew the plant was cut, there was no way to simply put it back. While the voice was very faint, she could hear a crackling voice speak to her, whispering in her ear. They want her 'essence'. She didn't know what that was and assumed it was her soul, and began to panic a little, begging with the spirit to let her go. Then she could feel a light stroke on her foot that caused her to let out a loud squawk, far louder than Lorica generally is. She leaned towards the spirit, her eyes wide and pleading, before telling them she was extremely ticklish.
All this did was put a wide smile on the spirit's face. Perhaps keeping yourself isolated and not telling your friends about your dangerous quests wasn't such a good idea after all...
Hey, I've neglected Lorica, and a bunch of other characters. I'm about to give all of them more attention.
