It's green and glowing, looks to be potentially giving of fumes so it would be sensible to be extremely cautious. Hopefully with his gadget the lizard will perhaps have some means of performing a chemical analysis or perhaps looking up some information to identify the green goo.
It could be potentially highly toxic, radioactive or have a corrosive effect so I imagine that he won't want to risk wading into it. Though another possibility is that the slime could be a living creature, one that's perhaps got some rudimentary intelligence and maybe is slightly confused and curious about the visitor though otherwise harmless. Though perhaps the lizard might get a shock if a slimy tendril suddenly emerged and curiously brushed across his foot.
