I love the character design in this movie; I really do. So I sometimes just can't help but doodle some tickle torture with the leads.

Anyway, yeah, I forgot about Beastars for a sec. Maybe Zootopia did have something to do with that. You know, it's funny you bring up Japan's proclivity for more-human catgirls, because I checked out of curiosity, and it turns out Cats made more money in Japan than any other market except the US & UK. And it almost beat the UK. I find that strange.

Goodness, I love your take on the designs from this movie! I have yet to see it, myself, but I was never too big into the musical in the first place so I'm not super motivated.
I especially like the bottom picture here. I love how she's really digging into those poor ticklish armpits and how he's begging ;) Great stuff!

I'm not sure if it's something I'd recommend. Even in its most accessible form, Cats as a property has always appealed to a very specific demographic of weirdos. When you take something like that and then filter it through a bizarre visual aesthetic in live-action film, you're alienating even more general audience members. The phrase "it's not for everyone" is a cliche, but one that exists for a reason.

When you think about it there's probably very many of us whom have a liking for things that everyone else seems to hate. We like what we like and with your artwork, the portrayal of the characters is definitely a lot more adorable without any of the uncanny valley from what I've seen of the movie characters.
With these sketches, a slightly evil if adorable tickle interrogation that's probably more about Rumpleteazer wanting an excuse to tickle Munkustrap and Victoria being playful and innocent though poor Mr Mistoffelees is obviously a little too ticklish. Looks like you had some fun with drawing these pieces and I rather like both sketches.

That's true, but I don't think I've ever seen anything get the kind of backlash that Cats did. It just seemed really undeserved and unnecessary. The movie is definitely super-weird, and that in and of itself is a hurdle to overcome, but there was also clearly a lot of talent and imagination put into it.
That said, I'm glad you like my interpretations of them. :)
Oh, definitely. He's an uptight and serious character, so if she can make him crack and start laughing, that's a bonus point for her.
Victoria just wants to play, but Misto's rather sensitive. Luckily for him, so is she. ^^

Well, this is proof that there is no cat quite as sensitive as Magical Mister Mistoffelees. Although, in hindsight, the name is something of a clue. :P Some good work here, not seen the movie, but you've done good in making the designs look good on paper here. The set ups are well done with the interrogation and Munkustrap trying so hard to be tough while being tormented in such an embarrassing way. The tickle teasing with Victoria is really cute too. Nice set of pictures here, all in all.

I tried to play off of the characters' personalities in the film for these kinds of interactions. Victoria's very cute and sweet, Munkustrap is kinda serious, Misto is shy, and Rumpleteazer is the wickedly playful sort. :)
