Alright, so I'm trying to get this right and the proportions are killing me. I'm going to keep working at it, but I still wanted to keep with the sketch posting. Feel free to comment, critique, or whatever you like.

As to the proportions it depends in part which cat you're aiming for, as a lion I think this should work out as a tiger it's quite short, tigers reaching up to 3:1 for body length:shoulder height where lions get as short as 2:1.
The interesting thing about this drawing is that I was referencing a tiger. A rather larger one. I'll check again tonight and see if I got things wrong. I measure my ratio of height to length from chest to rear, not including head or tail. That gave me about a 1.3:1 - 1.6:1 ratio of length to height.
