Origins:
Leslie Moore was born to a broken family in Washington, in a small coastal town north of Seattle. Unable to find steady work in a hometown ravaged by corporate exploitation, a teenaged Less resorted to lookout and courier jobs for the local gangs that used his town as a useful port.
Despite a talent for making deals and handling finances, Leslie was never seen as more than an extra pair of hands or a warm body to throw at a problem, until he was brought on for a high-end robbery in the big city when he was 17. The target was a prototype particle accelerator owned by one of the monolithic tech companies operating out of Seattle. Despite only being there to run interference, Less and his employers were in the room when the job went south and the device exploded.
Less was the closest to the device during the incident and one of the few to limp away from the disaster. After going to ground for a few months, Moore began to realize how the explosion had affected him. His weight, height and muscle mass were increasing dramatically, and he realized that the more hits he took, the less damage they did. Suddenly blessed with skin that could stop a knife and enough strength to flip a car, Moore finally started to make a name for himself in criminal circles as a specialist and heavy-for-hire.
His life in the criminal underworld had taught Moore that no one was going to give him the life he wanted. He would have to take it. Less began to invest his money in a brighter future, completing his GED, taking night classes in business and economics and learning how to make his money work for him. Even all his might and education wouldn't have paid off if he hadn't stumbled into a golden opportunity in his mid-20s during another poorly-planned job. Serendipity had left him with over a million in cash, no trail back to him and the chance to take the money and run. Which he did.
Fleeing south to the heat of California, Less began to build a stock portfolio that could multiply his profits as well as a reputation in the criminal network as elite muscle and protection. Successful jobs, smart investment deals and and a rep for discreet devastation saw an increase in Moore's holdings, and rapid rise in his asking price. With his new nest egg and reforged profile, Less arrived in Sterling City ready to carve his piece out of the Silver Coast.
Less's current base of operations is the illustrious Icebreaker miniresort, a rooftop lounge and pool where he serves double duty as CFO and bouncer. As the chief investor, he runs the place as he sees fit while setting his sights on the real estate of Sterling.
Leslie Moore's body was mutated on the cellular level by the incident in Seattle. His body naturally absorbs and metabolizes any significant form of kinetic energy it comes into contact with, reinforcing his tissues, rendering him immune to conventional means of attack and granting him vast reserves of strength. After having his powers for over a decade, Less has grown to over eight feet in height and gained over 600 pounds in muscle and bulk, with the possibility to grow even larger. Almost indestructible and with enough strength and heft to stop a moving train, Less is the incarnation of dangerous potential.
Personality:
Less is confident to the point of arrogance, and very aware of the effect his size and persona have on others. Power is everything to Less, and he has a constant desire to be in control of any situation he finds himself in, be it a social setting, business arrangement or heated battle. Under his growling, overwhelming exterior, Less is an intense pragmatist, rarely taking unnecessary risks or holding grudges if it might stand in the way of long-term profit or compromise his position.
A wild hedonist, Less is a seeker of luxury and comfort, usually very relaxed by his pursuit of idle pleasure and confidence. A man of broad tastes, Leslie enjoys the company of others, and can usually be found at the Icebreaker with more than one patron on his arm. Leslie is genuinely close to only a few people, but sees his actual friends and accomplices as investments that deserve to be looked after. In his legitimate front at Icebreaker, he’s known as an affable employer, generous boss and friendly host. The few times he grows genuinely upset in public is when someone threatens to disturb the peace and comfort of his rooftop paradise.
Calculating, patient and cleverer than he looks, Less is a drifting glacier with a lot going on under the surface. A dangerous new player in Sterling City that is not to be lightly dismissed.
Facts:
- Less has a habit of curating interesting individuals, or at least attractive partners, that he surrounds himself with at Icebreaker. Those who are a part of the Arctic Circle enjoy free admission and drinks, along with priority privileges to the miniresort’s many luxuries so long as they keep faith with Less and stick to the skimpy dress code while poolside. Among those spotted on his arm are the award-winning STEM student Isaac Tile, shipping heiress Nadia Silver and even enigmatic magic-maker Akila Maye, who can usually be found at the swim-up bar exploiting her access to the top shelf.
- His powers usually manage a sense of equilibrium provided he can absorb and discharge energy at a measured pace. Less has begun to experiment with intentional overloads of kinetic energy, which usually results in an explosion of temporary exponential growth, until his body metabolizes the energy and turns it all into flab.
- While estranged from his mother and not on speaking terms, Moore still sends her a monthly stipend to help pay the mortgage on the family repair shop. She accepts the money out of necessity, still wondering when he will actually call her.
Many kudos to my pal
kikatsu for drawing up Less's growth, and creating the Sterling City universe
