Budsies is a company that transforms drawings into one of a kind plushies. I’ve seen a handful of furries get their fursonas made and most of them look good, so I wanted to give it a shot. Thankfully, I did some research and made a simple “plushified” ref of her because plushies made from detailed refs tend to not translate well to plush form.
Here’s what went well in the design and service, and what could have been better:
THE GOOD
-Turn around time was quicker than I expected! I was expecting it to take at least 2-3 months. I ordered her July 13th and she arrived to my house August 21, so it only took a little over a month.
-Company was transparent with most of the design steps and shared them via email
-Colors are spot on! The staff was actually nice enough to let me pick colors from their fabric swatches before starting on it.
-Her eyes are nearly identical to the ref
-Her fur patterns, such as her spots, are nearly perfect.
-They actually got her antler shape correct. Most people don’t, so this was a relief.
-Body shape and posture in general is very close to the ref sheet.
-Legs and feet are perfect!
THE BAD
-Her mouth is completely absent even though it was shown in the ref. Most disappointed about that, but I can just sew one on myself.
-Antlers and bangs are too floppy, which made posing her for photos a pain
-Despite being seated, she always falls over. Not a huge deal, just slightly annoying if taking pics
-Fingers are too skinny, but still cute
-They gave her droopy beagle-like ears even though I told them that she was part corgi. Although to be fair the ref didn’t show her entire ear on the back view so it’s kinda my fault. They’re cute on her though!
-Despite sending updates, they never actually show you progress pics unless you pay an extra fee, which is a little ridiculous.
-The final step email was a little ambiguous. It made it sound like she was gonna be shipped within a few days to me during this step, but I didn’t get the tracking number email until two weeks later.
Overall, I’d rate this a 7/10 mainly due to the missing mouth and odd ears, but otherwise I’m pretty happy with how she turned out!
