I believe in miracles
Where’re you from, you sexy thing, sexy thing you
I believe in miracles
Since you came along, you sexy thing

I don’t know if this 1973 Volkswagen Type 181 “Thing” can be called sexy, but it is an interesting vehicle nonetheless. The VW Thing had removable doors, a fold-flat windshield, and the convertible roof could be removed. It was sold in the US from 1972 until 1975 when stricter safety standards forced it from the VW lineup.

About 100 years ago, I had one of the first ones brought into the US. When I went to the dealership, the salesman had never heard of the 181. The manager came out and told me they had only just been notified they were being brought in from the Mexico factory in a month. Time passed and I got a call that each dealership would get only one in the first trainload, did I still want one? I drove it out a few days later. Tons of fun, and very reliable. Sorry I traded it in....shouldda kept it. :>(
I had a girlfriend who bought one shortly after she came to work with us. In retrospect, I'm kind of glad I broke up with her after only a few months. I constantly heard her complaining about having no heat in the thing, how it turned into a hog on ice with any snow at all. Meh, she hated Science Fiction. It never would have worked out anyway -- even with her body.
