Not intentionally, his mane style is based on Knob braids I've seen on some horse, that I thought looked cool, but also to make him a bit aerodynamic, also its a way among other Kirinacus (His Species) can tell the difference between him and a civilian, for in the Kirinacus creatures society soldiers/military workers shave/braid their manes/mane beards so they won't be problematic in battle (So yeah Spykinacus was someone in the Kirinacus Military too, before being hired as a mercenary)
