Buttercup looked worried. "Are you sure this is safe, Thistle?"
"It'll be fine!" Thistle pumped with her hoof pump. It's air hose plugged into the tummy of a large, yellow inflatable duck. The poor toy looked unnaturally round, not a single wrinkle on it's surface.
"I think thats enough, Thistle!" Buttercup pleaded.
Thistle ignored her and kept pumping. "You said you wanted a toy as big as Squeeks, well in a few pumps Quackers will be larger!"
"Thistle, please, stop!" Buttercup begged.
Plam! The yellow duck burst with a rush of escaping air, quickly wilting into a rumpled mass of wrinkled plastic.
“I-I'm sorry, I didn't think that would happen.” Thistle tried to apologize to the yellow filly as they stood over the sad remains of the burst duck toy, its tummy seam split wide open. “Maybe we can fix it with some tape?”
The yellow filly cried inconsolably.
“This is something you cannot fix with tape.” Thistle's mother chided. "You're going to have to work to replace this for Buttercup."
Trash day reminded Thistle of her failure again, when she saw the poor burst toy dumped unceremoniously on top of the garbage cart. As the trash ponies walked off, she though she heard one of them say. “That's a bigun, I rekon we can cut that one up for a shower curtain, or sumthin'. No sense in letting it all go to waste...”
For some strange reason, the bear did not seem to pursue Thistle. But the terrified filly kept running anyways.
She ran as far as she could for as long as possible, but her right rear leg leaked softer and softer, She could feel her hoof wrinkling with each step. She looked back to see how low it was getting when she tripped over a log, skinning the knees on both her forelegs causing those to leak as well!
Thistle limped under a large tree and draped her tail over her leaky leg. Tears began to well in her eyes as she looked at the great holes the bear had torn. “Am I going to get thrown in the garbage, too?”
