What's authentic and amazing about this character IS the manner of dress and very casual style. You've completely drawn attention away from all abnormal aspects of him (the B&W helps of course), so that by casual glimpse, this DOES look like a common youth, nothing to see here, eye wanders on - without even noticing it's not human!
Of course, a tail and frill not hair would be a bit of a hassle to ignore realistically...
