I don't think it's a question of not following to the form or "throwing to the trash" the official reference model as the title suggests, but adapting it correctly to the new proposals. Just as the Incredible Hulk (and other Gamma-powered beings) canonically grows in mass and height size, seems that the bone structure should also be considered when changing proportions. I believe that in the same way Judy still can increase her proportions/muscles without harming the physical rules of the character. Of course, with the help of a plot device (read: growth serum, steroids, customized night howlers or anything of that nature...) it helps these changes to be more believable.

(Sorry in advance if I sounded harsh. I know it's just a drawing about ficticional characters making fun of the idea, you don't need to take this too personal in this case. But for me I think it's important to use references which helps each character to be consistent (and special) in their own shapes and sizes.)
