I imagine that Tial would in addition to handily repairing the backpack probably even be able to come up with some potential upgrades. With Zaw-Afikh just having smooth scales, I imagine mammalian hair particularly when wet might feel rather strange and unpleasant to handle especially when wet so probably why Tial felt discomfort. Hopefully poor Krondure didn't end up half drowned.
