I like to think in this city the laws about who registers a Taxi are far more lax than in many US cities, hence it's far easier for taxi operators to buy a car and freelance, rather than having to work for a large company. Something which in real life is only possible in a few large cities. Washington DC is the most well-known of these. A result in my fictional Bayoeh is that each owner operator has their own color scheme, hard to portray in pencil alone. Jitneys are also effectively illegal in most US cities. What's a Jitney? Picture a minibus or van with a loose fixed route, but which is able to leave that route for short distances. Sort of in between a taxi and a bus. Russians call them Marshrutkas.
