"C-can you make a plushy of me...? It's... for someone I really care about. He's not doing so good, and I really wanna cheer him up... Oh! A-and a Mightyena, too! Is... Is that okay...?"
"Heheh, of course! Two of my little Angels, coming riiiight up!"
--Tina and Kumaniji's first meeting.
Kumaniji here is not from Nachtveil, the capitol city of Kelienor. In fact, she's told us that she's not from Kelienor at all! She's only told us that she makes occasional trips to and from her warm, tropical homeland, spreading the joy that her plushies, her "little Angels", brings to folk around. Cool thing is, she custom-makes everything herself. It's... just her! And with how much she makes, and how much love she puts into making each one, is so unbelievable.
Well, at one point, the rescued Mightyena (who will come to be known as Rakete) as well as myself, were in comas from our human-to-pokemon transformations. We were watched closely by the Queen's military staff while recovering in my nation's capitol, Nachtveil. While we rested, Tina caught wind of someone who could be commissioned to make custom plushies.
Of course, she couldn't resist the curiosity. She loves plushies.
Tina found Kumaniji one day, at her stall near the side of one of the major Nachtveil marketplaces. She saw a cream-colored, cat-like humanoid, clad in a green and white striped hoodie and purple hair, playing somber melodies on a wooden guitar as potential customers passed by. They glanced at the colorful display of varying plushies; pokémon, and other strange creatures created from the minds of those she met in her home region. All neatly displayed, awaiting good homes.
Kumaniji noticed Tina almost immediately. Entranced by her music playing and the plushies before her, a conversation was immediately struck, and the bipedal cat's calm mood was immediately replaced by a warm and joyous tone. To her, it felt like connecting with an old friend.
After some casual banter, Kumaniji asked her what brought the little fox to her humble store. Tina was nervous talking about it, but told her about my situation, as well as the Mightyena who was also rescued. Conveniently, a life-sized Mightyena plush was already on display amongst other 'mons, still for sale. Tina asked if there was a way to have one made to resemble herself, and almost instinctively, Kumaniji began to size her up with a clothing measuring tape. It was like going to a fancy dress store, she described.
After jotting measurements and color references into a note pad, she turned to Tina and said it would probably take a few weeks to make. She happily agreed to the project, knowing full well that the two squadmates' recovery may take longer than that. So, a deal was struck that the Mightyena and Braixen were to be paid for and the prior held, until the Braixen plush was finished as well. Money and handshakes were exchanged, and Tina went on her merry way.
Every three or four days that passed, Tina would be in the market for supplies with another squad member or two, and Kumaniji would wave them over to chat and have the progress on the braixen plushy checked. She truly had a wonderful "personable" aura about her. She even triple-checked the purple color of Tina's eyes, just to be sure.
But after almost two weeks, the Tina plush was made! About 3 feet tall, glittery purple eyes... even a removable stick in the tail! Her attention to detail was amazing. She even slightly altered the Mightyena's yellow color in it's eyes to a white color to match Rakete's eyes, which was casually talked about at one point.
After handing off the big fluffy copies to my group, she did have one request to ask. She wanted to meet the two people who these "Angels" were intended for, and the group happily agreed. She closed up her store for a little while and eagerly followed them.
From what Tina told me, the guards at the infirmary tried to disallow our new friend from entering the private ward. Apparently, I missed Zoella threatening one of the poor bastards by showing them her teeth. She really has a serious Momma Ursaring personality.
But soon, she met us. Well, she first met Rakete. He was turned further back than I was. Awake, though he was definitely still in a very inebriated state. The joyous look on his face when his "double" was placed in front of him... was an emotional moment for many of them. Then Tina slowly walked over to where I was resting, with her new friend in tow, and gently sat her "copy" in the corner of my bed, it's head resting at my blanketed feet.
After we recieved the plushies, I regained consciousness another two weeks later. After first seeing the plushy, I was completely baffled how exact it was made to look like Tina. The only things that really differentiated the two were the sparkly eyes, and the occasional stitching lines.
Inevitably, I had a few mental breakdowns about what had happened to myself and all the people who lived and died through the transformation process. Though, I think the plushies helped in a strange way that I couldn't (and still can't) put my paw on. It was like, they understood? Like no matter what I said or pondered things, they were the silent observers that never judged. N-not saying that my group is the judging type. Except Maui, he always judges my cooking. But... eh. Is "judge" the right word?
Anyways, one day during my recovery, Tina asked Kumaniji to come in again. This time, to properly meet me. I was resting a bit, when I heard a gentle, low rhythm of guitar strings being plucked. Sitting up in a chair, leg crossed, I knew it was her with that purple hair of hers. My group didn't tell me she played as well.
Rakete was in the room too, but he was busy curled up in the corner of his bed passed out with his double. It was basically just me and her. She stopped, gently offered my own guitar to me that was resting against the wall, and asked if I could play with her for a moment. It was difficult to sit upright, and my arms were still weak, but I managed to grab hold of it. I watched as she strummed along a slow, sad tune for a minute, then abruptly stopped, almost frozen in time. Then she curiously looked at me, almost like we were chatting, and expected a response to a question.
I started to play after, a slow moody tune as well, though I was definitely not as coordinated with my digits at that moment. But after a moment or two, I paused and looked back at her as well. She smiled, nodded her head, and continued playing again.
This went on for about... 10 minutes or so. No talking, just playing. But it felt way longer than that. It was nice, peaceful. It felt like we were telling our own little stories, wrapped in our happiness and pain. The session probably would've gone on for much longer, except we were interrupted by something. The Tina plush that was leaning against my bed gently and adorably flopped to it's side, hitting the floor, it's top-heavyness gradually losing the battle against gravity.
We both looked over at the scene, and we began to chuckle a little. Guess we put her to sleep!
But I happily sighed, and asked Kumaniji to do something for me. I told her to look into a side pocket of my personal bag for something purple and bring it out. She curiously walked over, fiddled around, and brought out my purple beret. She was intending to bring it to me, but as she knelt down and held it out to me, I raised my shaky paw and slowly shook my head with a smile. I looked at both the plushes, the flopped Braixen and the cuddled 'Yena, and looked back at her.
"It's for you."
So, I'm doing this journal, as well as the next one, a bit out of order compared to the others. Since my last post, there's a few squaddies that have been met up until this point, but I'm very eager to post this and the next before them. This is for someone who's made such a huge impact on my life with my squad plushies, as well as maaaany people before me. I'll always wish you have a healthy and happy life. 🦊❤
