That is indeed very disturbing, to say the least. The two sketches couldn't be more polar opposites in feel and expression. He actually looks pleasant and agreeable on the left, but the right one....good lord.
I guess you know you've done something right as an artist when you're creeped out by your own character drawings, lol.

I think he looks happy only because he's 'squinting' in the left side....no use, since he can't see...or hear....not with all those things having fubarr'd up his senses...guess he'll have to rely on brushing up against people and feeling with of the gill-bits fan things of the anchorworms pull back in to know there's someone there...
