After several rampages, the colossal scorpion Hiserah became known worldwide as the Desert Reaper. With each appearance she grew larger and stronger, and authorities have all but given up trying to stop the terrifying zeibest. At present she appeared at a size that dwarfed the world's tallest buildings, structures that Hiserah saw as representations of arrogance, rather than achievement. And such arrogance was a sin that the Desert Reaper would not leave unpunished, be it from a structure, a population, or especially anyone doubtful of her strength. While Hiseah herself did not appear to speak, her disapproval was made clear from the deep, booming roars that came from the maw at the tip of her tail.
It's a minor consolation that she pays little mind to the meek and humble. But those caught up with bad company may find themselves inadvertently crushed underfoot or part of the Desert Reaper's next snack.
There were two main design goals for the Desert Reaper: 1. Make another insect-inspired macro that wasn't just Vespeza 2.0, and 2. Draw from middle-eastern influences so she'd fit in alongside interesting landmarks like the great pyramids and Burj Khalifa. A scorpion was the natural choice then.
I think the use of hijabs in some modern fashion is pretty interesting so I tried to make it work here. However hijabs are traditionally a sign of modesty, so putting one on a character that is explicitly not modest is at the very least ridiculous, and possibly offensive. But my creative license allowing me to draw whatever I want was too enticing so I went for it anyway. The texture on the hijab is supposed to be similar to a snake's shedded skin and I wish that was more apparent.
I didn't think of turning the tail's stinger into a maw until I was partway through sketching her. She was going to have claw hands like a real scorpion, but with the "claw" on her tail it seemed redundant so she has sharp human-like fingers instead. The center of the image with the tail, body and building all layered on top of each other looks pretty jumbled and it probably would have been easier to draw from a different angle. Like all the other monsters I've drawn I'm curious to see how an experienced artist would interpret this.
