Incoming continuity boner!
I'm drawing these as we progress so I started sketching the Kraken battle before it was finished. But since we hadnt leveled up appropriately, the Kraken completely overpowered us and we met our fate at sea.
So instead of travelling on to Scaraba next, we detoured back to Poo's home town in the sky, Dalaam. There we used the carrot-key we found at Magnet Hill on the Rabbit statues who guarded the next sanctuary. Inside we fight a number of oddities including sentient thunder clouds, snake-charmer hybrids who apparently charm themselves with their flute. At the end of it all we find the entities Thunder and Storm guarding the exit.
Misc. aside; What is the relevance of the melodies in Mother 2 anyway? The melody from the original Mother was integral to the plot, but I dont quite get how Ness's melody ties in to Mother 2. My only guess is that it's a lullaby Ness remembers, since it always accomponies memories of his infanthood.

You find out when you get them all.
I'll say that technically they're unimportant to the ultimate goal of stopping Giygas when everything is said and done, but what they eventually cause does bring about an interesting bit of story telling and a few revelations about Ness.

Well, okay, listening to them again, they are different, but they're still kinda similar. They're also both lullabies (one for Giegue, the other for Ness), and music is supposed to be the one thing that weakens Giegue/Giygas, since Mary/Marie sung the first game's to him as a child. Of course you defeat Giygas in a different way, but Ness's lullaby and the Sound Stone is still important for something that you'll see once you get all eight (it all ties together loosely).
