Oh hell yeah, I remember playing Tie fighter and having unlocked the TIE Defender and TIE Avenger and loving both so much
And for a game that has both in it now there is the Empire at War Forces of Corruption game with the TIE Defenders and with the Thrawn's Revenge mod it adds hundreds of new units and is GLORIOUS just look at it on the steam page

I just use the Steam version, I also have the GOG version but that is more complicated. Just go to the Steam workshop click subscribe on the page for the mod, and then when you load up the game go to settings, mods, and select the one you want followed by "Select"" and it may crash but it will eventually work if you try again or a third time if aboslutely necessary
