Sure, having a long, prehensile ponytail is great for when you need to grab and/or stab things, but let's be honest: Something short and spiky would absolutely fit Midna's impish, feisty personality a lot more. Looks like she agreed, and even found a salon with chairs in her size to help her with that! How convenient.
And as for what happens if she needs to use her hair powers again... Hey, the length already seemed to fluctuate wildly depending on what she was using it for, so what's another foot or two on top of that, eh? She'll be fine.
