Lysergic wyrm
Another of the many lysergic beasts.
Lysergic beasts are a Family of creatures on Lignamira that are aptly named because each species—to varying degrees of potency—secretes LySergic acid Diethylamide(LSD) from its skin. They are also characterized by their many eye spots; their zipper-like mouths and soft palates; and of course, their serpentine appearance and their playful and sociable nature. Having no natural predators that can stomach their hallucinogenic secretions and flesh, they are more or less seen as a pest amongst the sentient races of the planet.
The friendly nature of LSBs makes them somewhat of a nuisance. While they will not willingly cause any physical harm to most other creatures, they very much enjoy wrestling, chasing and cuddling up to most any other critter that notices them. Coming into physical contact with an LSB, depending on the species, will dose the individual with the powerful hallucinogenic.
On earth, ~100μg (0.1mg) is the average dose for an upright ape. LSB secretions vary in concentration from species to species, ranging from a dose of ~.01μg (100ng) to a reality shattering, brain melting dose of ~500,000,000μg (500,000mg or 500grams)§ This is enough to alter the brain chemistry of any animal; however, the LSBs with higher concentration of the chemical are considered extremophiles and are not as widespread or common as their less dangerous cousins.
While none of the species are considered exactly ‘sentient,’ some species are more intelligent than others (comparable to corvids or a 5 year old upright ape). This intelligence makes them useful to degree and can be trained or domesticated. It is not uncommon for lehnadrads to use them as a form of biological warfare or as a means to have a spiritual experience, thus leading to LSBs being revered and respected as godly beings by some populations
