“Adulthood is nothing more than a series of disappointments.” Brittany often said, at least when she was feeling down.
It might be a depressing sounding sentiment, but the husky was confident thought anyone past the age of twenty-five knew that there was some truth to it. While most kids couldn’t wait for the day they finally became adults, earning all the freedom that came with it, being ‘grown up’ really could suck a lot of the fun out of life and many adults spent their time wishing they could just go back.
“You always know your an adult when you stop looking forward to Christmas.”
There was one joy to adulthood that Brittany still loved every bit now as she had when she was a pup. The first day of school, the whole build up to it really. While Brittany enjoyed summer vacation, what kid didn’t? She also enjoyed school: getting a sense of accomplishment in having homework and classes to attend. Perhaps that was from her parents referring to school as her ‘job’, at least until she was grown up it was.
But getting ready for school is what Brittany really enjoyed. There was just something about the build up as school got closer: the fair that was already held the Friday before school started, back to school shopping and picking out the right shade of green for her new backpack. Ok… sure it was less fun to pay for the backpack instead of pick it out, but she very much enjoyed watching the twins as they ran around the store picking out a new set of mechanical pencils or a new pair of jeans, reliving the joys of childhood through her children while savoring some of the highlights of parenthood.
