Another photo from the recent outdoor car show in town.
You're looking at a 1964 Plymouth Fury convertible in what Plymouth's 1964 colour chart called "Eggshell White". The Fury debuted in 1956 as a fancy, top-line model, and it was initially only offered in this colour with gold anodized trim, so I thought it traditionally fitting on this car.
Mopars are the red-headed stepchild among the Big Three American carmakers; Ford and GM kind of dominate the scene. That may explain my fondness for the Chrysler company's offerings -- I tend to be a bit of a contrarian, minority taste, third-party sort. Witness...
Q : Coke or Pepsi? Me: RC Cola
Q : Fender or Gibson? Me: Gretsch
Q : Chocolate or Vanilla? Me: Strawberry
Q : Ford or Chevy? Me: Plymouth
Aaaaannnd so on ;)
I like the little three-point Plymouth crest set into the middle of the taillight and the smart chrome molding that wraps all the way around the car's beltline. And then of course, there's the classic chrome Fury emblem with it's cool backward-shaped "F". I once read that the Fury's logo was designed by a music fan in the Plymouth design studio who was inspired by the chrome logo on the front of a Fender amplifier that he saw onstage in a jazz club. Looking at the two logos, I see a definite resemblance.
