Oddhild's clan has an ancient tradition of cremating the bodies of fallen leaders and notable members of society, using their remains in the creation of weapons and artifacts. It is believed that the ancestor's knowledge and wisdom may be channeled through the artifact and bestowed upon the heir who carries it.

Oddy's sword is unusual in that the remains used in the forging of the sword were her mother's-- a shaman and diplomat. And so despite her memories of war and bloodshed tied to the sword, she keeps it for fear of losing what remains of her mother.
