Yeeeeup, this is definitely an Akira Toryama game.
Anyone who played the last game, Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2, will know this trick. Psyche up will increase your character's tension up to four times, at the end of which they can put all their tension into one attack, spellcast, etc. Healing spells heal a ton more, status spells hit with much greater accuracy, attack spells and just plain attacks will hit like a truck.
If you max out the character's tension level the air around them will suddenly explode with energy and they'll glow with... I dunno, chi? Fighting Spirit? Mojo? Eh, its not really importaint.
In Dragon Quest VIII the entire party could do this... in Dragon Quest IX its a martial artist only trick.
So yeah, not only can Tessa juggle boulders but she can also go Super Sayjin.
That monster in the corner is one of the legacy bosses you can fight after you complete the game once. The legacy bosses are in hidden dungeons all over the world and are the villians of the past eight dragon quest titles. Yep, everyone from Dragon Lord to Dhoulmagus and Rhapthorne is here. This guy is the first one you can fight, Lord Baramos from Dragon Quest III... and I still haven't beaten him. ._.
The 'Super Tessa' thing is crucial to the fights though. Baramos has more HP than the final boss and can kill most characters in one blow if he gets a critical, that and he casts a high damage non-elemental spell frequently that hits all my guys. Because of his huge HP though he can just outlast me right now, finishing me off when my priest runs out of MP and can't use healing spells anymore.
During this fight I'll have Tessa use Multifists after going 'super'. Normally the attack strikes random enemies four times for 33% of her normal damage each blow, or 132% of her normal attack damage total if used against one monster. At her current level thats about 120-150 damage.
If she's glowing however... its just under 1000 damage. Yeah, TEN times as much. Baramos has 6500 HP according to gamefaqs.com. Its about the only way I'm gonna win. o_o;;; And he's the FIRST one!
