In my work, this is explained by the fact that Balto was Rosy's first pet, whom she loved very much, but due to his age she could not protect him when his father considered him dangerous and she was the one who gave him a name)

aww, that explains why she and the other humans know his name. I like to imagine Balto slept with Rosy after a trip to the vet as all dog's do when they sense their humans are upset or sick.
