"Born with a curse upon his body. The young kuge Ruri lived his early life gradually withering away like an ill-watered plant. A wise old man passing through his town one day told the boy to open the way of an old river blocked with stone and mud, and the river god would strengthen his body if he washed with the water that flowed again anew.
He carved the land with a chop of his old cleaver, broke the stone, and moved aside the mud. The blade of his rusty cleaver was warped by the pure waters that flowed after, the rust pulled from it, and the metal stretched as it was tugged by the river.
The river reborn the boy waded into the river and washed his withered body, the curse carried from him downstream. The miasma of the curse touched many people and animals that drank from this born-again river as well as contaminated many lakes. Demons, Yokai, and other malevolent spirits fed on the boy’s curse and grew ever stronger.
“He who bathed in its birth must cleanse its veins of the miasma washed from him.“
The boy plucked up the river’s mother now a flawlessly crafted Odachi and set out the purify the lands he sullied."
