I got into the books late because I liked the show but I think I ended up reading the last two books relatively soon after they came out. I loved the show too although that last season was a little...odd. I'm interested in seeing what they do with the new show that's coming out soon.
Oh yeah the final few seasons... suck. They have their moments but I absolutely hated Hannah McCay as a love interest and every plot point around her. She's just the worst. I feel like the show lost a little sight of the humor of the books eventually and started leaning towards melodrama. It is a tough tone to balance and I'm sure they went through a bunch of different writers throughout the show though. First season is the best.
Holy hell I couldn't stand Hannah, and then the whole thing that happened with Deb in the end really upset me too. Yeah there was definitely more humor in the books and didn't take things as serious as the show was. I need to start watching the seasons again...but I dread watching at least those last couple or so haha
