After my last map, I decided to try and use a map on Wikipedia to try and make a bit more accurate world. This resulted in several changes, as well as additions that I decided would make things interesting.
Skylands: flying islands of various sizes. Their climates are somewhat akin to highland regions but they don't tend to follow usual altitude rules. Their "base" can, for instance, be tropical even if it's at an altitude where this wouldn't make much sense. This is because all skylands are magical in nature and follow their own rules--though they are usually fairly close to that of highland regions except for altitude.
Warp Zone: an area warped by magic which can be told by the bizarre features in their area (as well as always having circle diameter). These occur when magical eruptions happen. Magical eruptions are extremely rare events generally occurring once every 100 million years or longer. There have been only 13 in the entire history of Rani, with the most recent occurring on Candorin 10,000 years ago. The oldest is the Hemisphere Island Zone, where the largest area of skylands occur. The largest is around Candorin and has managed to not only warp the surface but even created a new tectonic plate around it. This area is generally called the Forbidden Zone. The second largest is the Hovanian Warp Zone which has been dated to around 65 mya. What caused it is still a mystery, though it's suspected that some (now lost) civilization was involved. All others, including the one around Hemisphere Island, have exactly the same diameters.
Ley Lines and Ley Nodes: Ley lines cross not just the surface of Rani, but run under and above it, channeling magical energies. Where they meet nodes appear of varying strength. The North Pole, South Pole, Hemisphere Island, and Time Mountains of Candorin are the largest nodes.
I know this is a lot of info (and the continental names are no longer on the map) so if anyone wants me to separate this more I can.
