I haven't had any of my favorite artists open commission slots recently so not much to add of late. However, this is one of my older art commissions from years back. This one is of my Cyber Raccoon named Coral. She is a mecha pilot and here you can see her piloting a P.E.T. (Paired Exoskeletal Transport) This isn't a true mech (Mechs are Big!) but a P.E.T. serves as Power Armor and also as an AI servant. It is called paired because she links to the Artificial Intelligence in the P.E.T. when inside. When outside, the P.E.T. is much like a faithful animal companion. Operating a P.E.T. is somewhat like possession where the armor becomes your body and the A.I. is like a voice in your head that helps.

Sigh. I don't see much of his cyber art anymore. It was awesome.

I don't think Zoids was even out when I had this commission done but I could be wrong. The power armor seen when Ghost in Shell was first released and some of Mansumune Shirow's work in Appleseed was my inspiration for the design. You might notice the artifical spine on her back that jacks into and connects to the P.E.T. when she is in it. Being a P.E.T. pilot can be disorientating for the untrained because you gain main senses that your wouldn't normally have such as radar and a variety of ways to see such as ultraviolet and infrared. The P.E.T. actually has olfactory senses as well which are about as good as a common brown bear.
If done right, the fitting-in of this information in to the pilot's sensorium can be best achieved through essentially "patching" the pilot's wetware: providing them with an artificial sense of normality when the new senses are in operation. In essence, the pilot is simply accessing them through a filter that fools the brain into saying "Oh, I've already had these". It's a bit more complicated, but if you've got the tech to produce a light powered armor and get past the problem of power density for storage and generation, then you've likely got the ability to produce detailed linking systems of this nature. Of note, Ghost In The Shell and other Shirow designs have been noted to have some deep interface abilities akin to this.
That is certainly possible. However, the pilot also works with the AI simultaneously when jacked in. The AI doesn't completely turn off when the pilot assumes control and assists in a team effort. The pilot depicted here can also eject so the two can also work externally as a pair although admittedly the P.E.T. gives more personal protection.
