Kajex's Birthday Surprise
Hello everyone! Sorry it's been so long since the last Orreian Tale, but I finally made a new one and it's my longest story ever! Plus, this one is special... this one is also a special birthday special to celebrate my irl 20th birthday, which is... today! I even squeezed a little more lore in here just because!
I had a lot of fun working on this story, but it was very taxing on me. Been in writer's block for all of September, but I'll be up and at 'em with the raffle prizes! Hope you all enjoy!
It was a late Thursday evening. Currently Rhys, Naomi, and Jade were in Naomi’s living room with only the ceiling fan lights to illuminate the room. They were currently going over some plans for the following day they were gearing up for.
“O-Okay so this is what’s going down right?” Rhys began cautiously, “Naomi stays at his mom’s place to get all the decorations set up, Jade goes around picking up everyone for the party, and I keep Kajex busy right?” “That pretty much summarizes everything,” Naomi assured as she took a brief look outside.
The following day was Kajex’s birthday. The three of them promised Leah to make this one special as the last several birthdays ended up being duds for him thanks to Kaja’s moaning and groaning about the day.
“Hopefully Kajex can manage to convince her to just let him loose this year,” Jade said in a worried tone, “She’s the biggest wild card in the whole plan.”
They all shuddered at the idea of all of their plans being set up, only for Kaja’s grumpy nature to let it all crumble into nothing.
“Well, I won’t let her ruin my precious pup’s special day!” Naomi exclaimed with enthusiasm. “Sounds like you alright Naomi,” Rhys shrugged, “But we’ll see what happens tomorrow.” “Yeah, and it’s getting late,” Jade remarked at the time, “We should get going.”
Naomi turned a bright red when she finally caught wind of the time. Quickly throwing herself together for bed.
“O-Oh you’re right!” Naomi panicked as the others awkwardly watched her, “Go ahead and head home so you two can get some good rest!”
Jade and Rhys awkwardly gathered their stuff before heading to the front door.
“We’ll give you updates on our ends tomorrow,” Jade awkwardly remarked as she opened the door. “We promise,” Rhys awkwardly chuckled as he stepped through the door.
They all steeled themselves for the roller coaster of a day that was arriving. They knew it wasn’t gonna be as easy as their plan foretold.
The following morning…
Kajex woke up in his bed completely upside down and groggy. He went to bed late last night because he knew that Kaja wouldn’t want him awake at his usual time. He looked up at his ceiling as he gathered his thoughts.
“Morning already?” he groaned as he tried to roll himself out of bed, “Time sure does fly when you sle-”
Kajex inevitably fell onto the floor with a thud. His glasses fell off of his nightstand and landed on his tail before he reached for them half-asleep.
“Let’s see how bad things will go on the big 20,” Kajex thought as he grabbed his glasses and slipped them on.
Kajex stumbled through the door and into the kitchen where he proceeded to pull a soda out of the fridge to help wake himself up instead of a coffee like most people.
“I'll just chill here all day,” Kajex thought as he put some bread in the toaster, “Alright Kaja?” “Fine,” Kaja’s voice echoed from the depths of his mind.
Kajex waited a moment before he took his breakfast out and lathered both pieces of toast with butter before he walked into his living room and turned on the TV.
“Wonder what game I’ll boot up first,” Kajex wondered aloud as he grabbed his controller and turned on the console.
Kajex began to glance through his vast library of games he had on his console with one hand as he munched on some toast in the other until he finally decided on a game to play.
“Now let’s play,” Kajex smirked as he gulped down the last bite of toast.
However just as Kajex was starting to play he heard some insistent knocking at his door, making him have to get up out of his seat to unlock the door.
“Who could possibly be coming here?” Kajex sighed as he opened the door.
Kajex was awkwardly staring at Rhys, who was wiping away a chunk of sweat like he was rushing to get to an event he was late for.
“Wh-Why do you look like you ran a marathon?” Kajex stammered as Rhys caught his breath. “B-Because I thought I was gonna end up missing you,” Rhys huffed as he wiped some more sweat off.
Kajex tilted his head in confusion as he let Rhys come inside, trying to figure out what he meant by that.
“M-Missing me?” Kajex stammered out of curiosity, “You should know that if I ever leave my apartment today it’s just to visit my mom.”
Rhys’s cheeks turned a fiery red at that one fact he had always known about.
“G-Guess I’m just still catching up to my brain,” Rhys awkwardly chuckled as he noticed Kajex was still in his pajamas, “You seem a bit out of it yourself!”
Kajex jumped a bit at the little callout Rhys made on him. He instantly slinked back towards his bedroom with a bright blush written all over his face.
“G-Give me a second to put some clothes on then,” Kajex blushed as he closed the door to his room behind him.
As Kajex went into his room to change, Rhys took a seat in the living room with some thoughts coursing through his mind.
“Got Kajex under my watch for the next few hours,” he thought as he messaged Naomi and Jade, “Now you two better make sure you’re done as soon as possible!”
Kajex was busy rummaging through his closet as Rhys held back his urges to get all excited over this.
Meanwhile…
Naomi was currently sorting out some plates and decorations as she had set up her phone to call up Little Tamatos for a supply of pizza for later resting in her pocket. She was already sweating a few bullets.
“Geez this is a bit harder than I thought it’d be without help,” Naomi sweated as she folded up a tablecloth, “I can’t wait to get over to his mom’s place to make things easier on myself.”
She had all of the items she was to bring over, a tablecloth, some plates, and loads of decorations. She stacked them all neatly on top of one another before she opened her front door.
“Hopefully she’s got all the snacks cooking over there at least she thought as she stepped out of the front door and closed it behind her with all the items in tow, “Rhys can’t keep him busy forever.”
Naomi trotted down to the sidewalk and diverted course to Leah’s home.
“I also hope Jade gets everyone on track too,” she thought as she stopped the plates from sliding off, “There’s quite a few…”
Naomi decided to shake off those thoughts and trudge onward. She knew they were gonna pull this off with ease.
Meanwhile…
Jade was currently just outside of Yuki’s place. She had just knocked on the door and was now awaiting Yuki’s arrival. She was a bit later than anticipated since her alarm didn’t go off.
“Just a moment!” Yuki’s voice echoed beyond the door. “Pleeease hurry,” Jade mumbled to herself as she tapped her foot rapidly.
After just a minute or so Yuki arrived at the front door in some more casual attire than usual, surprised to see Jade at the door.
“Jade?” she began curiously, “What brings you here?” “Well uh…” Jade awkwardly began, “I forgot to get all of my phone numbers back with my new phone and I was going to invite you to… a special surprise party we’re setting up for Kajex at his mom’s place.”
Yuki’s heart skipped a few beats at that remark. She had actually spaced out that day was Kajex’s birthday and immediately began to throw herself into order.
“I had completely spaced the fact it’s his birthday today!” she exclaimed, “When do I have to be over?!” “Just by 2pm,” Jade replied, “That’s all.”
Yuki instantly pulled out her phone and began to type up a few texts that surprised Jade.
“I’ll notify his two assistants about this,” Yuki assured as Jade glanced over her shoulder, “You just go tell that little Meowstic that she may wanna bring a size altering device.” “W-Wait, firstly why the size device?” Jade began completely baffled, “And when did he get a second assistant?” “You’ll seeee,” Yuki teased as she sent her messages.
Jade gave her an awkward goodbye wave as she turned around and diverted course to Cherry’s place.
“I’m just trying to figure out why she would need a size related devic at all,” she thought as she pressed on.
Some time later…
Kajex and Rhys were just awkwardly hanging out in Kajex’s living room. They had played some games earlier, but they had paused and were now kinda bored out of their minds.
“So uh…” Rhys began awkwardly, “... now what do we do?”
Kajex awkwardly looked at his phone to check the time. It was just past noon now and he normally visits his mom around then on his birthday.
“Well… I normally pay my mom a visit right about now,” Kajex awkwardly remarked, “So… maybe we could just… go head on over?”
Rhys’s heart skipped a beat at the remark. He still had a bit less than two hours before he could even think about letting Kajex visit his mom. However he didn’t want to act all suspicious either.
“Yeah sounds alright,” Rhys awkwardly chuckled as he stood up and stretched, “But let's do a little shopping first. Anything you want goes on my tab.”
Kajex looked at Rhys slightly oddly. Rhys usually never does stuff like that with him.
“What’s with your urge to just treat me all day?” he asked curiously as he fixed his coat, “You never ask to do a little shopping with me.”
Rhys’s heart skipped another dozen beats. He was nervous that Kajex could catch onto their plan and needed to scramble something together.
“W-Well I just figured that I can show my best bud some compensation for his birthday,” Rhys replied as calmly as he could, “Since… ya know how it normally plays out.”
Kajex awkwardly rubbed his shoulder at Rhys’s remark. He knows how adamant Kaja is about being left alone on this date and how he was always caught in the middle.
“Y-Yeah…” Kajex nodded at Rhys, “But a little shopping shouldn’t set her off.”
Kajex felt Kaja grumble from the very depths of his mind in agreement for this little detour. She wasn’t a huuuuge fan of being called out like that.
“Yeah she’s fine with it,” Kajex chuckled, “She’ll just be extra grumpy for a while.” “Sounds like a plan to me,” Rhys smirked as he tossed his wallet into the air before catching it, “So let’s get going.”
Kajex let out a soft sigh as he grabbed his own wallet just in case before they exited out the front door, descending down the steps as Rhys thought of every single (non-suspicious way) to buy some time.
Meanwhile…
Naomi had arrived at Leah’s home a short while ago. She was currently setting the table with all sorts of sweets and snacks while calling Little Tamatos as Leah continued to bake away, preparing even more desserts.
“Okay, I’ll be there in an hour to pick up everything,” Naomi nodded as she finished up her call.
Naomi hung up on the phone with a sigh of relief. She knew that she probably got the hardest job out of the group, but she was willing to go all the way for Kajex.
“How is the cake coming along?” Naomi asked curiously as she pocketed her phone. “It just needs a half hour or so to bake sweetie,” Leah smiled as she turned back towards Naomi.
Naomi was quite winded already. She had been working pretty much nonstop ever since she ate breakfast and Leah could see it written all over her face.
“Naomi dear,” Leah began in her signature motherly tone, “You go take a seat on the couch for a moment. I can finish setting up the table before we go pick up the pizza.” “You sure?” Naomi replied as she wiped a little sweat off of her forehead.
Leah exited the kitchen and quite literally picked up Naomi and plopped her on the couch like she was a doll.
“I mean what I say dear,” Leah smiled as she strolled over to the table, “I don’t want my little pup’s special girl to be all tuckered out before his party.”
Naomi blushed softly at her remark. She wasn’t quite used to the fact that her dating Kajex was reality yet.
“O-Okay,” she blushed as she felt all the aching in her legs catch up to her.
Leah began to finish setting everything up with ease as Naomi began to lie down instead, thinking about what could possibly happen if Kaja got in the way.
“Do you… think Kaja will let him have fun today?” Naomi asked curiously after some time had passed, “Especially after… last time?”
As Leah set the last item down, she looked back at Naomi and gave her a light sigh.
“I’ll make sure she lets him have his fun,” Leah smiled as she took a seat beside Naomi, “It’s their big 20 after all.”
Naomi blushed lightly at Leah’s answer. She knew this would have to work since everything was far more different than the last few years.
“Yeah,” Naomi smiled softly, “And I’ll make sure of it.” “I bet you would,” Leah giggled as she petted Naomi’s ear.
They both sat there and waited until both the brownies were ready to take out, but also to pick up the absurd amount of pizza Naomi had ordered.
Meanwhile…
Jade was currently coming up to Cherry’s place after getting turned around a little. After she was done there she had a straight shot for Leah’s to assist with any remaining preparations needed.
“Hopefully she doesn’t drag me into an experiment after we finish up here,” Jade thought as she rang the doorbell.
She stood around and waited a little until she heard some light footsteps behind the door, all before Cherry came up to it with a light sigh as she opened it. She still had her goggles on so she was most likely working on something.
“What’s up?” Cherry asked with an eye roll as she took off her goggles, “I’m currently working on my cellular split technology for Kajex.” “Oh are you?” Jade asked curiously, “I didn’t realize you were so far along already.”
Cherry dragged Jade inside since she didn’t wanna kick the AC into overdrive later.
“Yeah,” Cherry shrugged, “The hard part is pretty much done. I just need to put the actual splitting chamber together with a powerful enough energy source and BAM we’ve got these two separated for good.”
Jade’s jaw dropped a little. She almost forgot that she came over to ask Cherry to stop by later.
“But enough teasing the one that won’t even be affecting,” Cherry replied as she took a seat on her couch, “What’re you here for?”
Jade’s heart skipped a few beats as she snapped back to reality with that little quip.
“O-Oh I was just wondering if you and Ace would stop by at Kajex’s mom’s place later,” she blushed as she gathered her thoughts, “We’re throwing a quick birthday party for the two.”
Cherry’s face turned flustered and red when she realized she missed her self imposed deadline by a longshot. It’s been ages since she last checked the date.
“Y-Yeah we’ll go,” she blushed as she too gathered her thoughts, “I-I’ll just drag us both over when Ace gets home from school and I finish up something real quick.” “D-Definitely not the reaction I expected,” Jade remarked, “But Naomi will be very pleased to hear!”
Cherry straightened herself as Jade recalled a little piece of advice Yuki gave her.
“Oh and also,” Jade continued, “I don’t know why, but Yuki asked me to tell you to bring a size ray for some reason.” “Aaaaand now I’m scared to learn the reasoning behind that,” Cherry replied with an awkward look on her face.
Jade began to head out the door herself, but Cherry herself had one idea lingering in her mind that she had to get out.
“Hey Jade,” Cherry began as she hopped out of her seat. “Yeah?” Jade replied, “What is it?” “Do you think I could just bring some tools as well and… do, ‘their,’ maintenance over there? It’s actually the thing I need to do before I head over.”
Jade took a second to realize what Cherry had meant by that, her heart skipping beats at the very idea when she realized.
“Y-You do know that your whole secret would be let out with that right?” Jade replied out of pure shock. “Eh, you, Kajex, and Kaja already know,” Cherry shrugged, “Plus Ace and Rhys are bound to find out. Just ripping off the bandage.”
Jade nodded at the remark. It was her choice after all.
“Then be prepared for about a half dozen jaw drops,” Jade replied as she left and headed for Leah’s place.
Some more time later…
Rhys and Kajex were currently at their favorite video game store that they always pay a visit to. Kajex really hadn’t found anything he wanted at other stores, but he was interested in seeing what sorts of games they had in stock.
“After this, let’s just get over to my mom’s place,” Kajex remarked as he opened the door to the store, “We’ve been wandering around for at least an hour now.” “Yeah, fair enough,” Rhys replied with an awkward chuckle.
The actual reason behind their wandering was so Rhys could buy as much time as possible for Naomi and Jade. He knew Jade had already arrived there after her mission, but there was just under a half hour left before he could let Kajex go over.
“It’s already 1:20,” Rhys thought as he checked his phone, “And it’s a fifteen minute walk to his mom’s from here.”
Kajex was currently examining the shelves with the games for his signature console, pondering what sounded like a good option as Rhys continued to think.
“I need to keep him here for at least a few more minutes,” he thought as he walked over to Kajex, “But I think at best I’ll get three minutes.”
Kajex picked a game off of the top shelf with a soft smile. It was a game he had his eye on a while back, yet hadn’t bothered to pick it up before.
“Are you okay with me just grabbing this?” Kajex asked as he glanced back at Rhys, “Nothing else really catches my eye.” “Fine by me,” Rhys shrugged as he hid his nervousness, “Haven’t bought you a thing today, so my wallet is doing just fine.”
Kajex gave Rhys an awkward chuckle as Kajex went ahead to the register as Rhys himself had begun to panic internally over how fast Kajex was going.
“Crap, crap, crap,” Rhys thought as sweat drizzled down the back of his mane, “I gotta warn them that they need to hurry up!”
Rhys followed behind as he began to type up a text to Naomi, warning her that they’ll be a bit earlier than anticipated as Kajex began to talk to the cashier.
“Hopefully you get my message,” he thought as he gave Kajex some cash from his wallet.
Kajex looked at Rhys awkwardly as he passed him the spare change for his game. He thought Rhys was being a bit… distant.
“What’s up?” Kajex asked curiously, “You look like you’re in a completely different world right now.” “O-Oh am I?” Rhys awkwardly chuckled as they began to leave the store, “Just thinking about some personal stuff.” “Riiiight,” Kajex replied as they directed themselves towards his mom’s place.
They trudged onward, Rhys’s mind clouded by thoughts of what would happen if they didn’t get his message.
A few minutes later…
Jade had arrived some time ago as Leah and Naomi came back with the pizza and Leah had finished decorating the cake. They were currently relaxing on the couch as they waited for everyone else to show up. Naomi hadn’t seen the message yet.
“Geeeez that took forever,” Naomi exclaimed in a sigh of relief, “But we did it!” “Now it’s just waiting on everyone to show up,” Jade smiled, “Before Kajex gets here.”
Leah merely giggled at the girls’ sighs of relief as she sat on the couch between them, but she noticed that Naomi’s phone was vibrating on the table.
“Naomi dear,” Leah began as she grabbed her phone, “I think you’re getting a few messages.” “Oh am I?” Naomi replied as Leah passed her her phone, “I wonder what’s u-”
Her heart skipped at least a hundred beats when she read that they had to get the surprise ready NOW. They were just a few minutes away.
“C-Crap!” Naomi panicked as she sat straight up. “Wh-What’s going on?!” Jade stammered as Leah’s heart rate jumped. “Rhys couldn’t hold him back any longer!” Naomi exclaimed as she jumped off of the couch, “They’re minutes away!” “O-Oh dear!” Leah gasped.
Their jaws dropped simultaneously as they learned this little fact. They quickly threw away all signs of relaxation and got ready to welcome him in with… a smaller group than anticipated.
“Okay, next year it’ll be me and you taking care of him!” Jade exclaimed. “Fine by me!” Naomi nodded as she got to the side of the front door. “Now don’t be tooooo hard on Rhys,” Leah assured as she got over to the kitchen counter, “He didn’t want to draw suspicion.”
They all began to calm down as they got into position. Jade luckily using the fact that she now had everyone’s numbers to let them know plans were changed slightly.
“Yeah true,” Naomi blushed as footsteps began to faintly echo just beyond the door.
The doorknob slowly began to turn and creak open, a familiar blue piece of fur coming into view.
“Good thing she left the door op-” Kajex began. “Happy birthday!” the girls all exclaimed as he came into view.
Kajex’s face instantly turned red as soon as he saw what they had done. Rhys awkwardly chuckled as Kajex’s heart thumped out of his chest. Kajex was also drooling all over the sweets on the table.
“Y-You actually w-wanted to do this for me?!” Kajex stammered as he tried to keep his thoughts together. “Well of course!” Naomi exclaimed as she yanked him inside and gave him a smooch on the nose, “We don’t want your big 20 being wasted playing video games at your place all day!”
Kajex was absolutely speechless whereas Kaja was going BALLISTIC. She knows that others were already on the way over.
“You were just a bit early for our liking though,” Leah chuckled, “Still waiting on everyone else.” “Yeah,” Jade chuckled, “I said around 2 when it’s only a quarter till.” “Th-Thank y-” Kajex began as he felt a sharp pain strike his brain.
Kaja was yelling at him to just leave and ignore all of this. She was NOT in a mood to handle a crowd after that day.
“You know I can’t stand this sort of thing!” Kaja exclaimed as Kajex clenched his head. “Y-Yeah I know,” Kajex gritted as everyone understood just what was happening, “B-But…”
Everyone was nervously sweating, but Naomi stood there and continued to make eye contact with him.
“I-It’s much different than any other year,” he gritted as Kaja realized what he meant, “W-We’re not little kids any more and...” “... Okay I get the picture,” Kaja gritted, “It’s all because you two are all lovey dovey and don’t wanna hurt her.”
He nodded slightly as the pain began to ease up a little. He was beginning to hyperventilate slightly.
“What’s she saying?” Naomi asked curiously. “Just… you owe me big time,” Kaja gritted, “After this dumb little party is all over.” “Th-Thank you,” Kajex said in a sigh of relief.
Kajex nearly fell to his knees as the pain dissipated, but Rhys and Naomi caught him.
“How angry is she?” Rhys asked as Kajex got on his feet properly, “Well,” Kajex awkwardly chuckled, “She never makes my head feel like it’s ripping in two like that.”
Jade merely smiled as Leah decided to pick up her pup in a biiiig, tight hug, making him looking like he was about to pop.
“I’m just thankful she finally agreed to something like this!” Leah exclaimed as she swung him around. “T-Try not to get too excited mom,” Kajex wheezed as he tried to get his breath, “O-Or else you need to buy a new house again.”
Leah didn’t care about it for a brief moment. She just continued to squeeze him (with Naomi and Jade taking photos) as happy as can be until a knock was heard at the door.
“Oh come on i-” Rhys said as he opened the door before awkwardly pausing.
Cherry and Ace had arrived. Ace was holding a sort of handheld gaming console as Cherry blushed slightly towards her favorite pup.
“Looks like we came in at an… interesting time,” Cherry began awkwardly remarking as Leah set him down. “Just some mother and son hugging time,” Jade smiled as Ace closed the door behind him. “So this is what it’s like inside of a house in the DR District!” Ace exclaimed in awe as he felt so… small.
Kajex and Naomi awkwardly chuckled at Ace’s remark as the couple went to grab a few snacks, with the siblings taking a seat and Rhys awkwardly whispering to Jade.
“You actually got her to get out of the lab?” Rhys whispered to her. “Yeah,” Jade replied, “But this is only the tip of the iceberg.”
Leah went over and grabbed some snacks and pizza as Rhys stood there awkwardly.
“Tip of the iceberg?” he awkwardly repeated to himself. “Hey pup! Cherry exclaimed, “Mind joining me over here for a bit?” “R-Right away!” Rhys exclaimed as he zipped over to her side.
Ace was playing his game on his handheld as Jade leaned against the wall with a slice of pizza in hand.
“I hope she remembered the ray,” Jade thought as she took a bite of pizza, “Even if I have no idea why we would need-”
The entire house began to shake in a rhythmic pattern, like footsteps and he knew exactly what that meant.
“Uh…” Kajex began awkwardly, “Who invited Sora?” “Who’s that?” Naomi asked curiously.
After the steps became as powerful as earthquakes, they stopped and a knock was heard at the door.
“I-I got it!” Kajex stammered as he darted over to the door and opened it.
He opened the door to see Yuki and Dimitri standing there (Dimitri being as awkward as always) and Sora’s face just entirely taking up the background.
“Happy birthday cutie,” Yuki giggled. “Y-Yeah happy birthday,” Dimitri awkwardly stammered. “Th-Thanks,” Kajex chuckled as Sora watched. “Never would’ve guessed you were a Victini in the Zodiac cycle!” Sora exclaimed as everyone else looked outside.
Their jaws were dropping at the fact that Kajex knew a Cinderace as big as an actual building. This was completely new news to everyone.
“When and HOW did you meet her?!” Rhys exclaimed as his jaw touched the floor. “It’s a bit of an interesting story,” Yuki giggled, “But that can wait. Did you bring the size ray Jade requested.” “Well yeah I did,” Cherry shrugged as she rummaged through her bag, “I’d never forget that.”
Cherry whipped out her ray and strolled outside as Dimitri and Yuki went inside.
“So I’ll be small enough to go inside with that thing?” Sora asked curiously. “Yeah,” Cherry replied as she began to zap her, “But it’ll wear off in a few hours so hopefully you aren’t inside when that happens.” “Can do!” Sora smiled as she began to shrink.
As Sora slowly hit a more manageable size, everyone else tried to shake off the shock and talk normally and stuff.
“Looks like you two lovebirds are more precious together than I thought,” Yuki giggled as she loomed over Kajex and Naomi. “Wh-What makes you say that?” Kajex stammered as Yuki petted them. “You two look like you were made for each other!: Yuki smiled as Naomi’s cheeks glew a brighter red. “R-Really?” Naomi stammered.
As Yuki made the two all flustered, Dimitri took a seat beside Ace and watched him play his game as his glasses instantly began analyzing it much to his dismay.
“G-Geez this is why I turn this thing off when I’m watching anything,” he thought as he turned off the orange device, “Always gives me a headache.” “You okay?” Ace asked curiously. “Yeah,” Dimitri nodded, “I just forgot to turn this thing off.”
As he said that, Cherry and Sora (now only about as tall as Yuki) came inside, with Sora playfully messing with Dimitri’s hair as she sat right next to him.
“Talk about a change of scenery!” Sora smiled as Dimitri blushed a fiery red. “I-I feel like I’m in heaven,” Dimitri thought Ace glanced at him confusingly.
Cherry sat beside Rhys as Jade leaned against the arm of the couch beside them with a soft smile.
“Soooo any idea on when they show up?” Jade asked curiously. “Aaaany minute now,” Cherry snickered. “W-Wait who else is coming?” Rhys stammered.
Leah took notice of the little conversation and got a bit closer to ask about this mysterious guest.
“Another new addition?” Leah smiled, “You have piqued my interest, cutie.” “You’ll… definitely be extremely confused ,” Jade continued, “When you learn who it is.”
Rhys was just completely lost now, looking like he just got out of the worlds largest washing machine or something as he remained in a dazed state.
“I can feel my brain imploding,” he thought as everyone continued to chat away.
Time went on for a bit. Everyone chatted and messed with one another, even turned on some of Kajex’s favorite songs to add a little flair to the air, but all of that was going to change when they heard a knock at the door.
“Hold up,” Cherry said as she hopped out of her seat, ”I got it.”
Cherry strolled over to the door to reveal a very familiar, hooded figure to Kajex. He knew exactly who it was.
“W-Wait. You invited THEM over?!” Kajex stammered as they stepped inside. “I was just invited for maintenance stuff,” the figure blushed as everyone else looked in confusion.
Cherry closed the door behind them as she gave them a pat on the back.
“Go ahead and take off that hoodie,” she said, “They won’t let the secret out and if they do they can join my microbe collection for a year.” “If you say so…” the figure began as they took off the hoodie.
Everyone’s jaws dropped at the sight. It was indeed Thorya who had arrived and they were doing their best to keep their composure.
“Wh-Wh-What?!” they all exclaimed simultaneously, “Since when do you know royalty?!”
Theory gripped the connecting piece for their metal arm as everyone still gathered their thoughts.
“Well, a few of you here have known since the day I started developing a way to split apart those twins,” Cherry shrugged, “But I’ve been their engineer for the past two years or so.” “H-How did you keep this a secret from me?” Ace stammered.
Thorya awkwardly chuckled and gave a polite bow to everyone.
“My apologies for the… shock you’re all going through,” Thorya remarked, “But yes, Cherry has been my engineer for my left arm since an accident during Plasma Fist practice for me.”
Thorya let go of their arm as everyone got a better look at it, Cherry going through her bag to get her tools.
“I-I’m sorry to hear dear,” Leah stammered. “It’s fine,” Thorya replied as they took a seat, “Better than not having an arm at all.”
Cherry kneeled beside them and began to work some magic on the arm as everyone else watched.
“But it’s all in the past,” Thorya gritted as they felt the nerves disconnect, “But enough about that. Mind if um… I learn about all of you? I wanna learn a bit more about those Kajex and Kaja have met.”
Kajex jumped a bit when he heard Kaja’s name, one of his eyes turning pink to signify she was keeping an eye on them.
“Cool your jets Kaja,” Cherry rolled her eyes at, “I’m almost done getting stuff set up for your split anyways.” “Wh-What?” Kaja thought in the depths of her mind. “L-Like actually?!” Kajex stammered.
Thorya nodded as everyone resisted the urge to take photos.
“I gave Cherry all the necessary funding for it,” Thorya replied, “As my family’s form of atonement.” “Yeah,” Cherry continued as she removed the arm, “I WANTED to get it done as a birthday present, but some parts were a nightmare to develop. Should be ready next month though.”
Kajex and Kaja were both borderline crying tears of joy over this news, but everyone else was trying to figure out what they meant by, “atonement.”
“What does that even mean?” Dimitri thought. “What could the Orreian royal family have to atone for?” Yuki thought. “Especially for the actions of some greedy boss?” Naomi thought.
Leah however understood exactly what it all meant. After all, she was the one who was hit by all of that the most.
“Thank you,” Leah thought as she gave Thorya a soft smile.
Thorya blushed softly as they glanced at Leah. They understood exactly who she was just from a glance.
“I’ll set things right,” they thought as everyone began to introduce themselves.
As everyone talked to their soon to be leader one by one, Kaja remained there, lingering in Kajex’s eye and kept looking at everyone.
An hour or so later…
Everyone has had the time of their lives that day. They just messed around with one another and devoured every snack and slice of pizza in sight until the sun began to set, and everyone knew what that meant.
“Well would you look at the time!” Leah exclaimed as she took notice of the time, “We need to take care of the cake!” “Cake?!” Ace exclaimed as his tails began to spin in his seat. “Ooooo!” Sora exclaimed, “What flavor?”
Kajex didn’t even have to ask to learn what flavor it was.
“Is it your special chocolate supreme mom?!” Kajex exclaimed as his tail wagged at top speed. “You know it,” Leah smiled as she strolled into the kitchen. “I requested her to make it,” Naomi smiled as she smooched her Lucario’s cheek.
Leah came out with a massive, blue frosted cake the size of her torso from the kitchen and set it down on a clear spot on the snack table, with Rhys lighting the candles.
“Now shall we do the song real quick?” Jade smiled. “I-I have never received the birthday song before,” Kajex stammered as he looked at the cake. “Then we’re doing it,” Yuki giggled as she winked at Kajex. “On three then!” Naomi blushed as she saw Yuki wink, “One, two, and three!”
Everyone began to sing the birthday song as Kajex stood there, watching the wax on the candles slowly melt.
“So…” Kaja began to say in the depths of his mind, “... we’ll finally be free soon?” “You bet we will,” Kajex thought back to her, “This is Cherry we’re talking about. No way she’d leave us hanging.”
The others were about to finish the birthday song as they let their conversation go on a bit longer.
“I… hope you don’t mind if I talk a little more,” Kaja replied as Kajex got ready to blow out the candles, “... Kajex.” “I don’t mind it at all,” Kajex thought as they sang the last few words, “Kaja.”
Kajex blew out the candles upon the final word. Everyone exclaiming with joy as Kajex gave an awkward smile to them all.
“Everyone grab a slice!” Sora exclaimed, “Before I eat it all!” “Hey it’s the birthday goof who gets the extra cake!” Rhys exclaimed as Leah cut the cake. “Now hold your horses everyone,” Leah smiled as she gave Sora the first slice, “Everyone gets plenty of cake!”
Everyone said thank you to Leah as they all took their slices, but Kajex was the only one without a piece.
“Wh-Where’s my piece?” Kajex asked curiously. “You get the whole cake!” Naomi exclaimed as she booped Kajex’s nose.
Kajex shrunk a few inches afterwards, but he knew exactly what she meant by that.
“W-Will you take me home then?” Kajex blushed as she booped him again. “Of course I will be silly!” Naomi exclaimed as Kajex began to shrink himself, “Now dive right in!”
Naomi tossed Kajex into the air when he became the size of one of her fingers before he dived right into the middle of the remainder of the cake like it was a pool, completely cover in chocolate as he began to much away at it.
“He’s so lucky!” Sora whined, “I wish I could do that!” “Eh, maybe I’ll make you something to help with it sometime,” Cherry shrugged as she took a bite of cake, “If I get bored.”
And so, the night went on and on, everyone munching away on some delectable chocolate cake until they had to eventually leave…
