Let me think about that... I would say that "removed" counts as any applied part being taken from you...
If Player A has Ancient Etching applied to themselves, and Player B plays Flatpacked Friend against Player A... Yeah, I would think that Ancient Etching's effect would activate immediately, before Flatpacked Friend is resolved.
So, in that situation:
• Player B plays "Flatpacked Friend," picks any part applied to Player A.
• Player A picks one card at random from Player B's hand and discards it.
• Player B switches a part applied to Player A with any part in Player B's hand.
In theory, the players could choose to have Ancient Etching activate after Player B switches the cards. The only difference would be that the new card in Player B's hand might get discarded at random.
