bau is a canine. even if he's a dopey, pot-smoking canid. so, i figure, bau should have been able to sense (hear / smell) what was happening.

¹ though... ...i am willing to concede the possibility that bau's the type to get engrossed in a movie, to the total preclusion of whatever may be going around him, if the outside stimuli isn't strong enough to break him from out of his genjutsu
