One day the Guardians of the Galaxy just happened to go on a vacation trip to a mountain lake in California. Groot walked along the lake and spotted a strange creature coming out of the water, then he went for a closer look and it turned out to be some kind of half man/half shark sea monster and it quickly approached Groot, coming at him with anger, as if, he thought the tree creature was a threat of some kind!
King Shark, aka Nanaue, was on a mountain trip with his new buddy, Ratcatcher 2. She told him a few ghost stories the night before and told him that the woods was full of strange monsters, including moving tree monsters!
Well, Nanaue rushed over to Groot to thinking that he was after him and Ratcatcher 2. Groot quickly threw out hard, branch like vines to catch both his arms and legs! Groot acted quickly to try to calm the beast down and tickled him all over, putting Nanaue into a fit of uncontrollable laughter! After a while, Nanaue realized that Groot was just playing with him so he agreed to calm down and they enjoyed the lake together as new friends!

When you think about it Groot and Nanaue aren't really so different in some ways at least in terms of personality and that they can be gentle giants to their friends while also being very powerful and dangerous. I think they'd get along quite well if they met after maybe a little initial misunderstanding as happened here.
Given that Groot is a plant lifeform it's probably not likely he'd be capable of being tickled himself I imagine that tickling would be something he'd find fun and be rather playful with wanting to make his friends laugh, rather like Fred the tickle monster.
That could be another potential fun encounter if Groot encountered Bullard or one of the other werewolves in a forest and ended up making them howl with laughter.
