Times change. So do people and opinions. The railroad’s attitudes towards it have changed. Take CSX for example. Notice how they don’t usually repaint it or take the graffiti off? As long as it’s not covering reporting marks or critical car information they leave it. It doesn’t hurt anything. That’s some of the time.
Kind of a outdated opinion yeah. Yeah things are made overseas more than I’d like for them to be. But rail transportation will never be obsolete until a form of transportation is made that’s more efficient for bulk freight transport. It’s just not possible any other way. The change we’re seeing now is thanks to shareholders and just change in general. I think things are fine. Change is all it is. If things weren’t we wouldn’t really have rail lines anywhere by now already. They’d have all been ripped up. It wouldn’t have taken this long.
I forgot to mention the best form of bulk freight transport on land. Ships just couldn’t replace trains. Yeah we can export and import a ton more. But then how in the hell are we gonna get all that cross country? Trucks can’t handle that demand. Maybe a quarter of it if you don’t count the driver shortage. But not all. Trains are the backbone if folks like it or not.
To facilitate the fast movement of the military in times of war. Made reality by former US general Dwight D Eisenhower who’d seen the German Autobahn during WW2. That was the main reason for him making our own version of it. So our military could get from coast to coast quickly without getting stuck on muddy roads or being in areas without roads at all.
I’ll just agree to disagree. I don’t share that same sentiment, however you’re right. The interstate is being constantly adapted to suit the needs of the nation and is being added onto as we type. Sorry for being abrasive in any way. I enjoy a good civil debate every now and then.
