Drawing digitgrade legs as plantigrade legs with slight variations is an interesting technique, although it can result in an appearance of moderately implausible weightlessness, like in the featured example. the "different angle" bit looks heavier. I can see how this might speed up animating, however, where somebody won't have time to scrutinize individual frames.
