For all of her practice in the druidic arts, Ellen is just as much of a scholar. Only so much can be learned through teachings of mysticism and the philosophies of the natural world. There is just as much, if not more to be learned in the sciences. Ellen balances these two types of study, using her knowledge and methods in the sciences to further her understanding of the natural world in a way most other druids would not consider. Some of the more classically entrenched druids would even call her studies sacrilegious, saying she shows a lack of faith and reverence by picking things apart. She personally believes such studies bring her closer to the understanding held by the gods themselves. What better way to grow closer to those you revere than to share in their knowledge? After all, magic and mysticism, to her, is simply what can't be explained by science.
Druidic magics have not been the only ones she has studied. She has studied the many other magics of the world, at least in theory, though her druidic magics are the only ones she can truly command. When she can convince the students of such other arts to lend her learning material, she'll read them fervently and take notes before returning it, perhaps even trading knowledge of her own in return.
Unfortunately her druidic associations also often have earned the derision of her more scholarly oriented colleagues, who at times have mocked her for the magics she uses, saying she doesn't understand the "real sciences" and is pushing "pseudoscience", despite the fact she often goes to greater lengths to prove her points with more solid evidence than most others go to without even bringing in the slightest bit of magic theory. What's more, being a woman in what is primarily a man's space often makes it even harder for her to be taken seriously, but there are still plenty who know better. Some even see the value in the magics of the world. Perhaps if she had the chance to finish her degree before The Shattering struck and get that piece of paper, she would be taken more seriously. One thing few can deny though... she can rock a suit and tie.
She also often delves into studies neither sphere will touch, the spaces where science and magic are blurred, the unknowns where those with lesser vision or will dare not set foot or look upon. Ancient mysteries, the eldritch, Nightmare, Witchcraft. Many of these studies she conducts in secret, always abiding by a strict ethical code and always planning properly, and never resorting to testing or any other form of cruelty on any sentient beings... at least if they haven't tried to kill her first.
Another lovely picture depicting Ellen at her most bookish and professional! Thanks to

Not very often that you seen more 'down-to-earth' or 'slice-of-life' pieces of art when it comes to World of Warcraft. It is all about the war and crafting of it usually.
Natural, muted tones of these robes and the functional look of them. It's just a thing that is hard not to love <3
