Exactly this i got a message from your account earlier and the scammer argued with me XD. Factory restore is the only way to cull it once that cancer is on your machine.

Why does this post read like fearmongering?

Because it can happen.
For me something else got hacked. Even got DM by the hacker, well their bot, clamming if i dont pay them this amount of bitcoin they going to blabla.
Now i knew the exploit they used and knew what information i posted to that account.
Do to knowing what exploit they used, i was confident that my device(s) was not hacked, just my account to a degree.
And also knew other peoples were getting the same message
They used a bot or script by using the exploit to brute forcefully 'hack' accounts and performed changed to them.

If you dont know what they used to hack your account, it could be anything. It could be something that is still present in the machine.

This remind me my computer got infected once. BitDefender was useless :P I needed manually to get ride of the infection, few hours of pest control.

And you are also true about the fearmongering.
Still better to be safe than sorry.
