When Cyrus' Pack found Gatlin, abandoned and frightened and still just a pup, Cyrus embraced the young fox as one of his own. Took him under his wing and gave him shelter, protection. A home, and a soft place to land. Cyrus taught Gatlin independence, tenacity and strength. Akrasia taught him about confidence, and how to get away with sassing their Alpha without getting their tails whipped. Crew, the highbrow cousin, taught Gatlin about creativity and sophistication. He brought colour into Gatlin's life and reminded him to never stop shining.
The Pack was Gatlin's family, and he was grateful everyday for having found them. Each and everyone of them.
But that didn't stop him from being curious, when years down the line, he found out who his birth parents were and sent a letter to his mother, in the hopes she might want to reconnect with her long lost son, now 18 years old.
She didn't.
Gatlin hadn't realized how invested he'd been, until he was reading her reply and his heart broke.
That was nearly two years ago now. Today, Gatlin is 20, and still spends much of his time with his found family and pack. As a fox, he's technically a divergent species from his hybrid adoptive-family, but they've never once made him feel like anything less than blood. The pack was there to cushion his fall the day his mother broke his heart for the second time, and they were there to help him put the pieces back together, too.
Now, he lives with no regrets, and would be the first to tell you he has the best family in the world, and would never change even a second of his puphood.
