Almost a year ago I won an auction that contained a blower motor for my 1970 Volvo. I could tell it was on its last legs. Then last April it gave up the ghost and I started formulating how/when I was going to install it.
Those of you who follow me who have had the dubious pleasure of removing and then reinstalling a cars ventilation system probably know just why it took until this weekend to do the swap. It was not very fun.
However, it did reveal something quite important during the process. I had wondered why the airflow through the heater was rather meagre since I've owned it. This was why.
UGH!!!!
This image will be shuffled to my scraps in a fortnight.

Not so much restoration, just decent enough for a daily driver.

I've actually never seen this era Volvo have a core fail and leak, though they certainly can plug up internally.
Once I'd dumped the stuff off the top of the core it was washed under hot water and a strong sanitiser and briefly backflushed as well. I did however put a NOS fan switch in at the same time since I already had to remove it.

Astoundingly no blood was shed on this! I was sorer than when I'd started though :D
I think if I compress out the time I spent letting the brain work out how to remove it without taking out the dash it took a bit over 3 hours. If I had to pull it out again I think that would be reduced by a 1/3rd since I'd know what bolts to leave alone.
