Overall very emotive. Love the way you did the eyes and mouth, along with the position of the free paw and the laid-back ears. Those details really convey uncertainty and a bit of fear. One detail to really sell the fear emotion would be to lower or tuck the tail...typical fear body language for most canids.
One other detail you might consider is softening the edge of the light beam a bit...maybe with a bit of gaussian blur. With the soft edges you have on the fog, it might give the light a bit more of a natural appearance in this setting.

I'd personally disagree :3 There's many styles of doing it and this is just one of them. I've seen many artists do it and quite like it myself! I also find, when looking at references, there's a bit of refracted light but often it does have quite a straight line difference, which will be more apparent in cartoon work. Though I sometimes do blurred.
