Back in my Pathfinder days our GM decided to shake things things up by giving the party a mobile base in the form of a magic airship called the Star Chaser. But there was a twist, the ship doesn't take you where you want to go, it takes you where you need to be. Basically it was an excuse for a group of adventurers to suddenly show up wherever there was adventure to be had. Like the lazy wizard who tired to summon an air elemental to a clean her house, botched the spell and called an air demon instead that killed the wizard and threatened a local village. Or the gang of halfling (hobbit) thugs that disguised a dire hog as a legendary forest monster to run a local inn owner out of business so they could take it over. Yeah, pretty Scoobydoo but still good times. Anyway, the hook was the ship would drop us off somewhere, sometimes a few miles (encounters) away from the action then would return at the end of the adventure to take us to the next one. As it was such a big part of one of my favorite campaigns seeing as the Star Chaser fly again feels really good.

Right? :) I remember seeing one for the first time in a Final Fantasy game and just thinking it was the neatest thing. :D Then later I played a game called Nostalgia, where you travel around the world in an airship, and after that I was just hooked on them. I kind of wish they’d appear in more games or stories, because they fit perfectly in a fantasy setting. :)
