Because the vast majority of slaves are actually kept in healthy condition so they can make money for the hold/owners. Don't be fooled by a smile though, that doesn't make her any less a Slave, aka someone's properly. Also Different Holds have different regulations, Different Countries and peoples have different beliefs and ideals. Not every slave is viciously abused in my world.
