He scoffed at the warnings, set in his opinion that people are just too dramatic and whiny and there's no way anyone would eat something so pungent. He wouldn't admit he was wrong, of course, but he did learn a valuable lesson that some foreign delights are more than meets the eye, but perhaps less than meets the nose.
