The rustling leaves and whispering winds might have brought comfort to a weary traveler bunking at an inn, but the sounds from all directions as the night dragged on wasn't as glamorous when outside in the wilds. Achilles had taken a contract that took him a bit further than he'd been thus far, and he was still only a quarter of the way there. These woodlands were new to him, occasionally breaking out into wide open fields, with wild animals going about their business. He took the time to appreciate the variation of trees and plant life as he marched, the roads he left would've been wiser, but the contents of the quest implored haste, and Achilles was nothing if not punctual. He'd come across old rusty blades lying in stumps, arrowheads still buried where they struck, but no sign of the event itself. The forests sometimes retook land long untended, replacing the remnants of death with new life. But recalling a few close-calls with terrifying entities from beyond made his back prickle with the feeling of being watched. No armor or blade alone would win against forces beyond mortal reckoning, but posturing might at least draw a curious spectre in to reassure it of no ill-inent to its resting place. Appreciative spirits were likely to ward off malicious beings or wild animals if they were properly honored. Spirits that took offense though, was another matter, and not even the bite of enchanted steel would save you from a fate most terrible. And the foul air building and shifting direction of the bonfire's embers betrayed any feeling of friendly parlay.
