At the time that I was making Ruby Quest and its associated materials I was in the most severe depression of my life. I created it as a means of channeling that depression into some kind of positive energy because otherwise I would literally just try to sleep as much as possible to avoid having to be conscious.

(I've gotten over it since so don't bother trying to cheer me up)

The secret of this comic is that Filbert's outlook was essentially my own.
