A customized WW2 PBY Catalina I saw on the ramp at the Bullhead City AZ airport in the late 1990s. Normally a 2 engine aircraft, this one had the wings extended and 2 additional post WW2 engines added. A search of the registration number gives you quite the story about the plane and its owners. The pilot saw me trying to photograph it thru the airport fence, he came over, opened a gate and let me get a decent shot - was dang nice of him. Probably can't do that in this Post 9/11 era.
Edit: It is the Bird Innovator https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_Innovator I guess I photographed it before it was grounded for repairs

I've seen photos of the aircraft chop shop at the air base in Kingman AZ after the war. Paid dues one year to the old CAF - had the rank of Col. - like everyone else in organization. Helped wash a R4D based in Dallas a couple of times then got busy with life and didn't have time for that fun. I support keeping surviving aircraft of that era in good shape
Coolest thing I've ever read about a PBY Catalina - https://goefoundation.org/eagles/cram-jack-r/ First read about it in a history of the USMC in WW2 when I was a kid - ended up building a model PBY and tried to find some scale torpedos for it...
Lycoming engines, I think Beechcraft twins used those at that time period of the conversion - about 1967. I'd been looking for the photos for years, turned up in in an old shoe box on a top shelf along with other old photos I'd been missing for years. I'd had a bout of depression some time back and threw out photo albums and all the copies of the B Warz and DBU and some other stuff. Been kicking myself over that one for a long time
