IIRC, Flaming Carrot used to have a nuclear-powered pogo stick he stored in his mask. The Hop Rod may have been the inspiration for it, I know Bob Burden loves all those BAD IDEA toys from the 60's, he had the Carrot challenge Death to a game of Jarts, instead of chess, like in Bergman's The Seventh Seal. Kind of predated Bill and Ted taking Death on in Twister...
