Shakur is the oldest of Maua's sons, and was also a very valued member of the Udevu Mob. While most of his brothers spent their time going roving, he mostly spend his time helping his family, often being on sentry duty or babysitting his younger siblings and teaching them how to forage. He was also a very brave meerkat who often put his own life at risk to defend his home and family. This nearly cost him his own life once when he was bitten by a puff adder while protecting his younger siblings, but he managed to survive the bite without it leaving a mark. He later received a wound on his face during a fight with another mob which did end up leaving a scar, which would've made for a cool story if he ever gave roving a try.
One day while Shakur is babysitting his mother's latest litter of pups, their burrow ends up being raided by their long-time rivals, the Leza Mob. Shakur fights bravely to protect his siblings from the dominant male Bazazi and even manages to drive him out of the burrow, only to have the other Leza meerkats participating in the raid pile onto him. Even though he was vastly outnumbered, Shakur fights bravely and lashes out at each of them, determined to protect his siblings hiding in the burrow below. Despite how badly wounded he was, he wasn't going to let his family down.
The Udevu end up returning from their daily foraging trip and manage to chase off their rivals, but by then it was too late for them to help Shakur. Having been badly mauled by the Leza, Shakur succumbs to his injuries and dies. While his time on Earth had been cut short, the rest of his family would forever remember him as a hero, especially the younger siblings he died to protect.
(I seem to draw TLK meerkats doing this pose a lot.)
Anyway, here's Shakespeare! In real life, his fate was never discovered as he simply disappeared while babysitting one day, and the footage of him defending his siblings from the Lazuli was most likely taken from an unsuccessful burrow raid that the Whiskers performed on a rival mob around that time. Watching the show as a teen I always kinda assumed that the Lazuli killed him offscreen while he was defending his siblings during the burrow raid, so that's what I went with for my TLK/MM crossover.
Also, his wiki page mentioned that he once received a bloody wound on his face during a fight with the Lazuli, so I decided to incorporate that into his design.
