The party approached the gaily colored airship resting upon the ground atop 4 thick brass legs powered by complex clockwork mechanisms, the mechanics of which even the group’s grey beard could only guess at. A small wooden ramp had been lowered from the bow leading inside the ship’s belly. Though it was a bright, sunny day outside, inside the gloom of twilight was kept at bay only by a few dull light bulbs that flicked like candles upon the walls. Behind a cracked ebony table sat the Witch, easily mistaken for some unknown breed of canine she gave the visitors a toothy grin as she motioned them to sit.
“So, you wish to know your fortunes?” cackled the thylacine. “Be certain, the future is rarely what we want it to be and I won’t sugarcoat the details. Ignorance, as you humans say, is often bliss. Is this truly what you want?”
She gazed deeply into the eyes of the three people sitting before her. They returned her gaze just as deeply. Unconsciously fingering his amulet, the group’s young priest murmured a few words—a prayer, perhaps? The mage raised an inquisitive eyebrow and the brawny fighter tapped his fingers on the table as he weighed his options. In time each adventurer nodded an affirmative reply.
“Very well, then.” Another cackle, and the witch placed her hands upon a shimmering crystal ball at the center of the table. An object the party would have sworn before a judge wasn’t there a moment ago. “Now, let’s see what the spirits and Momma Eventide can discover for you?”
