After yet another while of inactivity, here's a creature for a story series I'm planning on working on called Kalea the Spear, which you can read more about in my tumblr here! (if you've got a tumblr account, please follow me and lend me your thoughts) But to summarize it, it's about the adventures of an orphaned cavegirl with some animal through prehistoric times, encountering ancient pre-human civilizations and fighting the forces of those oppressing fledgling humanity; it's kinda like Conan the Barbarian, but more stone-agey, on her part, at least.
As for which animal Kalea will be having her adventures with, I currently have two options. Our first one here is this Dog-Pangolin-Kangaroo hybrid creature which draws some inspiration from , with some kangaroo added to the mix, as well. In the prehistoric world of Kalea the Spear there are a lot of unknown prehistoric species I'll be creating, some of which may look like hybrids between two or so different species, kinda going for a bit of an Avatar kind of feel, and conveying the idea that there are still so many species in prehistory we have yet to discover.
I picked a dog-type creature for Kalea's travel buddy because, well you know, dogs are famous for their loyalty and faithfulness, but I do have another candidate to run by y'all, a smilodon-type creature with horns and even tusks like an elephant, for whom I've picked out the named Kalisha — haven't found a name yet for the dog creature, but I'm open for suggestions.
How exactly Kalea meets the dog-pangolin-kangaroo creature, I still haven't quite decided, but I got a couple of options.
1. Kalea and the dog-pangolin-kangaroo creature start out as hunting rivals, competing with each other for prey, but either learn how to work together or a forced by circumstance to ally against a common enemy — how exactly that plays out, I've still got to figure out, but, again, I'm open for ideas.
2. Kalea gets captured by an enemy and put into a colosseum to fight animals, one of which is the dog-pangolin-kangaroo creature, but she soon sees how mistreated he and the other animals kept at the colosseum are, and—after somehow managing to get out of the fight—later frees him and the other animals. Most of the other animals return to herds or packs of their own kinds, but the dog-pangolin-kangaroo creature, having been imported from a distant land, is unable to find others of his kind and then opts to join Kalea in her travels.
I'll be posting Kalisha and more things soon! And please feel free to share with me your thoughts!
